VTU CGPA Calculator
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for all engineering programs across its 200+ affiliated colleges in Karnataka. Your CGPA is calculated as a weighted average of your SGPAs across all semesters, with each semester weighted by its total credits.
Grade scale
VTU uses a 10-point absolute grading scale. Grade points are: O=10, A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6, C=5, P=4, F=0. AB (absent) and NE (not eligible) carry 0 grade points.
| grade | grade point |
|---|---|
| O | 10 |
| A+ | 9 |
| A | 8 |
| B+ | 7 |
| B | 6 |
| C | 5 |
| P | 4 |
| F | 0 |
How it works
Percentage conversion depends on your admission scheme: 2021 onwards uses CGPA × 10, while the 2018 scheme uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Select your scheme above and enter your semester-wise grades to calculate your SGPA and CGPA.
Frequently asked questions
What is VTU's SGPA calculation formula?
SGPA = sum of (subject credits × grade points) / sum of total credits in the semester. For example, if you have 4 subjects worth 4 credits each and you scored O, A+, A, B+ — your SGPA = (4×10 + 4×9 + 4×8 + 4×7) / 16 = 136/16 = 8.50.
How does VTU convert CGPA to percentage?
For 2021 scheme onwards: Percentage = CGPA × 10. For 2018 scheme: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Always check your marks card or official VTU student portal for the conversion formula specific to your batch.
What SGPA is considered a pass at VTU?
You need a minimum SGPA of 4.0 to pass a semester. Individual subjects require a minimum P grade (grade point 4.0). Grades F, AB, or NE carry 0 grade points and indicate a failed or incomplete course.
How many semesters does VTU engineering have?
VTU BE/BTech programs are 8 semesters (4 years). The CGPA is calculated cumulatively across all completed semesters. If you have backlog subjects, the CGPA is recalculated once you clear them.
